THE ART OF NO RULES MARTIAL ARTS
About the Academy of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Self Defense
The Academy of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Self Defense is the name of our school. At its core is the overall philosophy of "what works." The superfluous or fanciful have no place here.
Your life or the lives of your family may be on the line. It is not that we do not use rules or guidelines at the school, but rather the simple admission that to survive in a real world confrontation we may need to use all of the tools of combat at our disposal. Another way to view this is that a committed attacker has no moral restraints, no compunction about hurting you or your loved ones and he is certainly bounded by no rules. It is individuals or groups of persons like these that motivate many of us to train in the martial arts.
The template for all that we do here is an art known as Kung Fu San Soo. It is not the sum of what we do; yet it is the guiding principle and overall foundation. Other influences are applied, most notably Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, as well as other techniques that have passed rigorous testing in the realm or applicability and function.
Master Chris McCune's first school in Las Vegas, Nevada was the crucible for the Academy of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Self Defense. The research, testing, and teaching done over that 10-year period produced some very capable men and women. It was there that a simple method of training and instruction was formed. That format, always grounded on sound principle, is still evolving. This school, you, and all the students are part of that ongoing evolution.
We take a personal vested interest in the training and education of all our students. It is our intent that even from day one you receive techniques and methods that you could apply today if need be. It may take a lifetime to truly master the art, if even then, but it should not take years to become a competent fighter.
